Lunchtime Hero

by Raquel on September 9, 2010

hero-organiccottoncanvas-kids-lunch-tote-skullsI happen to think this skullified number is a rockin’ way to pack up lunch; bet there’s a few small pirates around who’d agree!

This fantabulous lunch tote is “Grown and Sewn in the USA” by San Francisco company, Hero Bags, and comes with a custom name tag area, zipper closure and a flat bottom so it stands upright.

They also make a range of shoppers and bottle bags; I’m particularly loving their two bottle bag which just received an honourable mention in the 2010 Annual Design Review for Packaging Design. It’s an excellent eco savvy option for bottle shop purchases, and great to use when going to parties, BYO restaurants, etc.

Style That’s A Perch Above

by Raquel on September 8, 2010

perchdesigns-earlybirdlightI‘m seriously taken with this delightful ceramic Early Bird light from Perch! Design. Evidently, I’m not the only one; this is their best seller and now it’s been released in colour: yellow, light orange, brown, green and gray, I’m sure it’s popularity will well and truly take flight!  A fabulously fun and quirky way touch for kid’s rooms, the light comes out from its wings and tail (cute!), and if you live outside the US, it can be specially wired for your country.

Perch! Design’s homewares are all handmade from earthenware, using non toxic glazes, paints, and processes with minimal impact on the environment. Another new release with plenty of playful character is their Rabbit Vessel (pictured above). What will you use it for? That’s entirely up to you; Perch design their objects with multi-functionality at heart so you can make do with them as best pleases!

Woolly Wonders

by Raquel on August 30, 2010

seam-upcycledwoolblanketcushions

I‘m a bit of a decor junkie, that is, I develop random crushes for inanimate objects, often. My latest fancy is these quirky little puffs of upcycled woollyness from NZ label ♥ Seam. They’re bright, playful and would look pretty sweet in kid’s rooms or anywhere else the family likes to kick back and get comfy .. fab!

If you have a deconstructing tot or two running around your home, eco toy maker ♥ Aroundsquare has just the thing to harness their energy. Their Good Wood Deconstruction blocks are made of sustainable rubberwood and come in plain recycled cardboard packaging with no script, just beautifully crafted pieces of wood for kids to make with as they please.

These clever sets of  abstract shapes work wonderfully alone, or with each other, for a super creative play session that doesn’t need batteries; this one’s powered purely by the infinite imagination and curiosity of kids, that is, it’s endless!

Aroundsquare operates as a social enterprise, with at least 30% or profits plowed back into charitable endeavours, plus customers themselves have the option donate one of the sets to a childcare centre in a developing country for a mere $12USD. The companies creator, Mathew Heibert, is an education specialist and consultant who also manages a Canadian government program promoting early childhood education in Egypt.
