If you have a deconstructing tot or two running around your home, eco toy maker ♥ Aroundsquare has just the thing to harness their energy. Their Good Wood Deconstruction blocks are made of sustainable rubberwood and come in plain recycled cardboard packaging with no script, just beautifully crafted pieces of wood for kids to make with as they please.

These clever sets of  abstract shapes work wonderfully alone, or with each other, for a super creative play session that doesn’t need batteries; this one’s powered purely by the infinite imagination and curiosity of kids, that is, it’s endless!

Aroundsquare operates as a social enterprise, with at least 30% or profits plowed back into charitable endeavours, plus customers themselves have the option donate one of the sets to a childcare centre in a developing country for a mere $12USD. The companies creator, Mathew Heibert, is an education specialist and consultant who also manages a Canadian government program promoting early childhood education in Egypt.

From $29.99 USD

Maiike A Difference

by Raquel on August 22, 2010

maiike-handmade-ecofriendly-baby-quiltsI received an email from Annie Bowen of wonderful new eco store ♥ Gallop Lifestyle - it’s so divine, I’m wondering if she’ll let me move in? - which led me to the delightful handmade wonders of textile artist Aly Peel that Gallop Lifestyle carry.

Under her label ♥ Maiike, Aly upcycles old jumpers, cleaning, felting and cutting them into squares, which she then fashions into an exquisite collection of cot quilts, cushions and scarfs.

While there’s quite a few lovely blanket options for baby, quilts are another matter. So I was thrilled when I spied these sumptuous puffs of sustainable goodness - what a stunning heirloom piece for babies cot!maiike-ecofriendly-softies

The thrills don’t end there. As a sustainable artist, Aly doesn’t allow anything to go to waste; any leftover material is used to create super snugglie softies. There’s monkeys, rabbits and cats, all equally adorable, thus making it impossible to single out any one of these lovely play pals for special mention - each and everyone would totally delight your little guy or girl.
